How do I verify my SSL Certificate details/expiry date?

To make it easier to get in touch with us, from the 24th of March 2016 all support tickets will need to be submitted from your Crucial Control Panel.

To verify that your website is secure and/or when the SSL certificate expires there are a few methods of testing this.

You can view the site information from your browser to view basic information about the SSL certificate. Including if the connection is secure and when the certificate will expire.

  • Firefox
    1. In the address bar click on the lock icon to the left of 'https://'
    2. This will show if the connection is encrypted
    3. Click on 'More information'
    4. Click 'View Certificate'
    5. This will show the expiry date

  • Opera
    1. In the address bar click on the lock icon to the left of 'https://'
    2. This will show if the connection is encrypted
    3. Click on 'Details'
    4. Click on the linked domain name
    5. This will show the expiry date

  • Chrome
    1. In the address bar click on the lock icon to the left of 'https://'
    2. Click on the 'Connection'
    3. This will show if the connection is encrypted
    4. Click on 'Certificate information'
    5. This will show the expiry date

  • IE
    1. In the address bar click on the lock icon on the right hand side
    2. This will show if the connection is encrypted
    3. Click 'View Certificates'
    4. This will show the expiry date

  • Safari
    1. In the address bar click on the lock icon on the right hand side
    2. If you can see certificate information this will indicate that the connection is encrypted
    3. You will also be able to see the expiry date

If you see an exclamation mark or another icon in place of the lock icon, then that could either indicate that SSL is not working or that the website is displaying a mix of secure and non-secure content.

You can also test the website against a SSL tester such as the SSL test provided by Qualys SSL Labs.
