How do I update my WordPress version and plugins?

To make it easier to get in touch with us, from the 24th of March 2016 all support tickets will need to be submitted from your Crucial Control Panel.

WordPress is not 'set and forget'. As the website owner you're responsible for patching your WordPress installation just like you would your Windows or Mac computer at work or home.

We cannot stress how important it is to keep WordPress, as well as its plugins and themes updated, especially since WordPress is the most attacked CMS platform to date.

Prior to updating WordPress or plugins, it's recommended that you speak to your developer to ensure that your website has an offsite backup (outside of your hosting provider) and that the updates will not affect your website.

  1. Login to WordPress.

  2. To update your WordPress version, simply click the 'update now' section seen in the picture below:

  3. To update your plugins, select the Plugins tab on your dashboard. Select 'Update available' on the page and update your plugins:

  4. To update your theme, look for your theme button on the left hand pane or top navigation, the upgrade path will be different for every theme.
