There are times where it may be necessary to change the primary e-mail address of a personal Google Account, for example, to allow the Google Apps service to claim ownership of the account. The following steps outline the procedure for changing your primary e-mail address.
Note: This article does not apply to accounts which use the Gmail service.
To change your primary e-mail address:
- Sign in to My Account.
- In the "Personal info & privacy" section, select Your personal info.
- In the "Email" section, choose Edit (pencil icon).
- Enter your new e-mail address.
- Click Save.
Once you've saved the change, you should get a message at the email address you just added to your account. To complete the change, click the verification link in this message. You should also get a message at your old email address confirming the change.
